Our Research & Initiatives
The Menon Lab investigates the dynamic role of tissue-infiltrating B cells in shaping inflammation and driving pathology in chronic respiratory diseases and autoimmune conditions. Central to our research is the question of how B cells interact with the surrounding microenvironment, particularly the extracellular matrix and local stromal and immune cells, to influence tissue architecture and immune responses. We are especially interested in understanding how these cellular interactions evolve during disease progression and how they contribute to sustained inflammation and tissue remodelling.
To address these complex biological questions, we integrate a range of complementary technologies that allow us to examine B cells within their native tissue context and at high resolution. Our lab combines spatial transcriptomics, imaging mass cytometry, and advanced flow cytometry with functional assays and in vitro culture systems to build a multidimensional understanding of B cell behavior. This approach enables us to uncover previously unrecognised mechanisms of B cell-driven pathology and identify potential therapeutic targets. Ultimately, our goal is to define the microenvironmental cues that shape B cell responses in inflamed tissues and translate these insights into strategies that can modulate disease outcomes.
Public Engagement
At the Menon Lab, we are passionate about engaging with the public to raise awareness of chronic lung conditions and autoimmune diseases that affect respiratory health. Our work highlights how patient samples are used in cutting-edge research to better understand the impact of air pollution, COPD, asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, and related conditions and to drive the development of more effective treatments that improve quality of life.
Our outreach activities are interactive, educational, and fun, designed to engage people of all ages and backgrounds. From hands-on demonstrations using microscopes and pipettes to games like Splat the Virus, we aim to spark curiosity and make biomedical research accessible and engaging.
We actively bring our science into the community, participating in science festivals, school visits, and local events. Through these efforts, we strive to build a deeper public understanding of lung health and the critical role research plays in combating complex diseases.
